History:

ConocoPhillips Company is the result of the merger of two companies, Conoco Inc. and Phillips Petroleum Company on August 30, 2002.

Conoco was founded in 1875 by Isaac E. Blake, who successfully fulfilled his vision of making kerosene available and feasible for the populace of Ogden, Utah. It was initially labeled as the Continental Oil and Transportation Company. The company quickly diversified into supplying oil, coal, candle, and grease in the West, on top of being a kerosene distributor.

In 1905, L.E. and Frank Phillips discovered the first of a series of 81 wells, which paved the way for the formation of their company, Phillips Petroleum Company. Phillips was the pioneered the development and distribution of propane for the consumer market and invented the process to make high-octane gasoline.

On June 26, 1929, Marland Oil Company absorbed the assets of Continental Oil Company. Marland Oil Company then adopted the name. The red triangle symbol that was Marland Oil’s was used from 1930 up to 1970, when the present capsule logo was first used.

In 2002 the Conoco-Phillips merger transpired.

In March 2006, ConocoPhillips acquired the companies Wilhelmshavener Raffineriegesellschaft mbH and Burlington Resources.

At present, the company is headquartered in Houston, Texas, has 32,600 employees worldwide, operates in nearly forty countries, and has assets totaling $178 billion. It is known as one of the six supermajor oil companies, namely ExxonMobil, BP, Royal Dutch Shell, Total S.A. Chevron Corporation, and of course, ConocoPhillips itself.

They are acknowledged by financial mediums around the world as the six largest energy supplier. In the United States, it is the third-largest integrated energy company and on a global basis, is the sixth-largest reserves holder of non-government-controlled companies, and fifth-largest oil refiner.
