History:

Brothers and visionaries Anton and Franz Hamm started the company in 1878 when they founded Gebrüder HAMM in Tirschenreuth. Both were gunsmiths at the time but they found huge potential in agricultural equipments manufacturing. For two decades, the company the brothers founded gathered popularity and by 1899, they were a big player in the industry and their equipments well-renowned in the agricultural circle.

It was in 1911 that Hans Hamm designed and invented the first diesel-powered road roller. This would be a milestone that would mark the start of Hamm’s international reputation. In 1928, the company decided to solely focus their operations in the manufacturing of road rollers, their trademark product up to today.

Alois Hamm, another second generation Hamm, developed and patented the first all-wheel drive, all-wheel steering double drum or the tandem roller, a breakthrough in the compactor construction industry.

With business blooming, the company survived the Second World War and continued to be the market leader with their superior products. It was also around this time that the company started garnering international success and its products enjoyed a constant increase in exportation.

In 1963, the company yet again introduced another innovation to the market: the first rubber tired roller with all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering, a success from the moment it rolled out of production. The company is still currently manufacturing this specific product.

During the 80’s, Hamm introduced and used in its production a new oscillation method of compacting; a method they formally marketed in 1989. After much success as a company, Hamm AG became the second company to join the Wirtgen Group GmbH and continues to be the leading player in the construction industry today. It also continues to headline road construction fairs like the BAUMA and also continues to garner prestigious awards in the construction field like the “Red Dot Design Award” and the “Golden iF Award” for its innovative designs. The company remains ready to tackle the future.
