History:
Fluor Corporation is a public company that specializes in procurement, engineering, construction, and maintenance services organization. Fluor is based in the Las Colinas area of Irving, Texas. The company houses over 41,000 employees globally and maintains offices in more than 25 nations.
Fluor was established in 1890 by its founder who was a Swiss immigrant, John Simon Fluor. At that time, the company was named as the Fluor Brothers Construction Company. In 1922, the company was granted a contract for Richfield Oil, where they were assigned to construct a natural gasoline plant. This earned them a pioneering track record in the construction of oil and gas facilities. The company became incorporated in 1924, and was awarded its first major refinery contract for Shell Oil at Wood River in 1932.
As time went by, the company extended its services outside the country, particularly to Saudi Arabia in 1947, making it their first major overseas project. These major projects included the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System, which was finished in 1977.
Recent records show that the Fluor Corporation is involved in two major projects. It has signed a $3.8 billion contract for the BP Whiting refinery modernization with a target completion held in 2011, and the replacement project of the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge due to be finished in year 2013.
